Journeying with Jesus

This month,  the children's sermons at St. James have focused on the meaning and the purpose of the season of Lent. So far, we have learned about the color purple, fasting/giving up something for 40 days, folding our hands like a pretzel in prayer, and cleaning up/being cleansed by God in the waters of baptism!

Jesus' Entry into Jerusalem

On a similar note, our children's Sunday Schoolers have started learning about how Jesus journeyed to the cross.  Week  by week, we learn another piece of this great story that molds and makes us into Christ's own disciples.

Rooster Craft for the story of Peter's Denial

If you have a child who would like to journey with us to the cross this Lent, bring them to St. James! We have Sunday School each week at 9:15AM and Worship at 8AM and 10:30AM.

New Adult Sunday School Class - The Wired Word

The InBetweeners Sunday School Class has started a new series which takes current events from the headline news and shows us how to apply the Bible, our faith and our beliefs in responding and addressing these issues. If you've been considering Sunday School, why not give "The Wired Word" a try? There is a new topic each week so you can start anytime! Also, the lesson is sent to all class members via e-mail, usually Thursday or Friday, so they can read more about what's going to be discussed on Sunday morning. If you'd like to be added to the e-mail list, please let the Church Office know. Hope to see you Sunday Morning at 9:15!

Rallying Together

This past Sunday, St. James celebrated the start of a new Sunday School year with Rally Day! We had a great time together as we enjoyed food and fellowship, skits and a scripture verse-based scavenger hunt. Our time together also gave us a chance to hear from teachers and students in all of the Sunday School classes. We have classes for people of every age from infant through adult. Everyone is welcome to join us at 9:15AM each Sunday. We would love for you to join us.

Rally Day

St. James celebrated the start of new Sunday School year with a helium balloon release. Each balloon had an invitation attached to it, so that whoever finds it might be able to visit our church or drop us a line and let us know where they picked it up. These balloons represent the outward direction we want to take toward the community around St. James this year as we reach out and share Christ's love with all people.

What's New?

We've had a busy summer at St. James and are excited about all the things that God is going to be doing in, with, and through us this fall! This Sunday is our church Rally Day, where we'll celebrate the start of a new Sunday School year. St. James will hold classes every Sunday morning at 9:15AM for nursery and preschool children; rotation-model Sunday School for kids in grades K5-4th; a middle school class for grades 5th-6th; a youth class for grades 7th-12th; a Young Adult Breakfast and Bible Study for college students and young adults; and 3 other adult Sunday School classes as well. Also this weekend, we are kicking off our new combined Youth Group and Confirmation Class with two other local ELCA congregations: Nazareth Lutheran Church and Providence Lutheran Church, as we gather together at a Youth Group Adventure at Camp Kinard. Come and join in all the fun, as we learn about God together at St. James!

Summer Sunday School's Not Boring

We kicked off our new Kids' Summer Sunday School this week with a view from inside the whale with Jonah. We also painted seashells, made a big fish craft, and popped bubbles with whale-shaped party blowers! It's fun to learn the stories of the Bible and to remember God's forgiveness and grace.Kids are invited to join us again next week at 9:15 AM for another exciting Sunday School lesson.

Weiner Roast!

The Adult Sunday School classes at St. James got together with their families for a bonfire and weiner roast this past weekend proving that not only do they study the Scriptures well together, but they play well together, too! Afterwards, they shared a great time of fellowship over some rounds of bingo. Bingo winners were awarded various prizes including quarts of shrimp, packages of cookies, and even miniature tool boxes. We welcome all adults to join us at any of our 3 Adult Sunday School classes each week starting at 9:30AM.

Perfect Attendance

Congratulations to our Sunday School Perfect Attendance Award recipients for the month of January. Actually, our Kids' Sunday School at St. James is a reward in and of itself. Each week, our elementary and middle schoolers meet at different stations. Whether they are in the Musical Playhouse, Creation Station, Biblemax Theater, or Divinity Diner, as pictured here, they have fun learning Bible stories together. This past month, they focused on 3 women of faith from the New Testament: Lydia, Dorcas, and Priscilla. Since Lydia was a maker of purple cloth, we spent lots of time making (and tasting) purple foods. We encourage you to bring your elementary and middle schoolers to our church to join in all the fun.

Happy Birthday, Martin Luther!

Our Kids' Sunday School celebrated Martin Luther's birthday this week. His actual birthday was November 10, 1483, but these 525 years later, his legacy still lives on! During our party, we played on a kid-size Luther game board, decorated Luther Rose crafts, sang songs and ate cake, and even opened some gifts for Luther. Happy Birthday, Martin Luther! We give thanks to God for your life of faith.

What's Going On?

No, you're not seeing things. Those are our church folks in the fellowship hall, flapping their arms like doves and rocking their arms like boats. If you join us for our morning gathering time in between 8AM worship and Sunday School, you'll get the chance to do these actions as well as sprinkle your fingers like the rain, stomp your feet like a hippopotamus, sway your arms like a tree, and have fun as you sing praises to God.

Don't miss out on all the fun at St. James! Join us this Sunday for worship and Sunday School. All are welcome here.

Sunday School Rally

Are you smarter than a church kid? At our Sunday School Rally just a few weeks ago, the adults and the church kids went head to head to determine who is smarter. They were posed questions including, "How many books are in the Bible?" and "Who were the two sisters that had Jesus over for dinner?" and "What color was the third horse in the book of Revelation?" With one question after another, the children figured out the most answers, leaving the adults in the dust. The kids not only won the game, but they also got to share some Krispy Kreme Doughnuts as a reward. What a fun time we had together as we celebrated the start of another Sunday School year.
