Serving in Christ's Name

St. James' Women of The ELCA prepared sack lunches for a rally for the South Carolina Spinal Cord Injury Association (SCSCIA) on March 6. The SCSCIA gives hope and assistance to all those who have suffered spinal cord injuries in our state. It is estimated that more than 12,000 people in our country experience spinal cord injuries every year from vehicular accidents, sports, falls, violence, and military combat. We pray for those with spinal cord injuries, that they would be given strength and would be filled with God's peace.

All ladies of the church are invited to join us at our next WELCA meeting on Tuesday, March 19, at 7PM, when we will be welcoming a guest speaker from Sister Care.

Walking to Fight Hunger in Red Bank

Our Youth Group had a great time on their Hunger Walk last weekend.

Together, they raised money and canned goods for the St. James Food Pantry, which helps to feed so many families who are hungry in our community.

Their walk also helped to raise awareness of the hunger in our area and of St. James' care for all those in need as we minister to others, seeing Christ in them.

" 'For I was hungry and you gave me food; I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink; I was a stranger, and you welcomed me' " (Matthew 25:35).

Journeying with Jesus

This month,  the children's sermons at St. James have focused on the meaning and the purpose of the season of Lent. So far, we have learned about the color purple, fasting/giving up something for 40 days, folding our hands like a pretzel in prayer, and cleaning up/being cleansed by God in the waters of baptism!

Jesus' Entry into Jerusalem

On a similar note, our children's Sunday Schoolers have started learning about how Jesus journeyed to the cross.  Week  by week, we learn another piece of this great story that molds and makes us into Christ's own disciples.

Rooster Craft for the story of Peter's Denial

If you have a child who would like to journey with us to the cross this Lent, bring them to St. James! We have Sunday School each week at 9:15AM and Worship at 8AM and 10:30AM.

Following Christ

As followers of Jesus, we at St. James Lutheran Church strive to carry out Christ's greatest commandments: to love God with our heart, soul, and mind, and to love our neighbors as ourselves (Matthew 22:36-39).  Help St. James as we care for our neighbors this month:

Our Food Pantry is collecting donations of peanut butter and jelly, pasta and sauce, and bags of rice.

Our Youth Group is collecting canned goods and money for food for the poverty-stricken people in our community.

Our Children's Sunday Schoolers (Preschool thru 2nd Grade) are collecting washcloths and soap to make Foot Washing Kits for those who are in need.

Also, our church is continually collecting small, microwaveable cans of spaghetti, ravioli, and mac n' cheese as well as Poptarts, pudding, jello, fruit cups, crackers, and other easy-to-make food items for students at Red Bank Elementary, who go home hungry on the weekends.

Follow Christ with us as we help those who are in need in our community. Please bring all donations to the church office, or place them in the appropriate bin in the Narthex of our Sanctuary. Thank you!
