Alleluia!

Christ is risen! He is risen indeed. Easter morning at St. James was filled with people singing alleluia to our risen Lord Jesus. We hosted the Red Bank Community Sunrise Service this year at 6AM, and the pews were filled with our Christian brothers and sisters from here as well as the Red Bank Methodist and the Red Bank Baptist churches from across the street. Afterwards, we enjoyed an Easter breakfast together. The delicious meal of sausage, eggs, and toast was served by our Lutheran Men in Mission. Then, at 10:30AM, we held a service of Holy Communion, where we welcomed a new member through the waters of baptism. What a glorious Easter morning we shared as we worshipped our Lord and remembered that first Easter day, when Jesus rose up from the dead in victory! Alleluia!

Hosanna!

Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord! Hosanna! On Palm Sunday, the congregation at St. James held our palm branches high and walked behind the cross as we remembered Jesus' ride into Jerusalem. This day marked the beginning of Holy Week, and gave us all a chance to reflect on the great lengths that our gracious Lord goes to, giving his life on the cross in order to bring us sinners back into his arms.

Up from The Grave

Our church graveyard was filled with life this afternoon as a large group of kids and adults went searching all over the grounds for more than 400 Easter eggs. What a great time they had, as they loaded up their baskets with colorful, candy-filled eggs! Before setting out on their egg hunt, they were blessed to hear the music of the Hearts of Columbia choir. After the hunt, they got back together to enjoy some delicious refreshments together and to play with baby chicks, kittens, bunnies, fish, and tadpoles. What a fun way to anticipate our upcoming celebration of the crucified and risen Christ, who opens the tomb and brings new life into our graveyards as he defeats death forever!

Gone Fishin'

Our Lutheran Men in Mission gathered at 8AM this morning to attend the first annual Saxe Gotha Lutheran Men in Mission Fishing Tournament at Kinard Conference Center. Prizes were awarded to those who had the biggest catch. And the BEST part was that everyone got to take home what they caught!

Let's Play Ball!

The St. James Lutheran softball team had their first game of the season on Monday evening, and a group of folks was there to cheer them on. There was much reason to cheer, as they won the game 7-6! Go, St. James!
